Applying my philosophy that yoga can be adopted to every BODY, I developed a chair yoga class for those seeking an alternative to the traditional standing, seated, and lying down on a mat type of class.
Many of my chair yoga students are further along the aging spectrum, my oldest student to date is 101! Others are recovering from physical injury, and some just want the gentler pace.
The poses are done seated on a chair, yet there is plenty of opportunity to stretch and strengthen your body, improve your coordination, balance, and mind, body, spirit connection. Linking breath to the poses enhances participants ability to move outside of class without getting winded, and helps them negotiate stressful situations. All of the poses taught help with challenges of the aging or injured body; stiffness, range of motion, standing up, balance, posture, and acceptance of the body. Each class ends with a guided meditation.
These classes are offered at the Littleton Senior Center and Riverglen House, both located next to the beautiful new river walk on Riverglen Lane in Littleton, New Hampshire. Sit through Chair Yoga and then enjoy a walk along the river!
